Weekly Update - October 2 - 6

The last week of September consisted of beautiful but windy weather. We had picture day on Monday (your kids are adorable by the way), opening mass on Wednesday and the Terry Fox run on Thursday. We couldn't have asked for better student awareness and participation for the Terry Fox Run. Thank you to all of the parents who came out to help!

The grade four buddies pair up with the grade ones on Wednesdays. In addition to teaching them math games and reading with them, they will also help their buddy practice the weekly spelling words.

This week we will focus on Thanksgiving words and activities. I apologize for the delay with Raz Kids! My understanding was that the classes would be flipped over by this weekend but when I went in to set up the levels, I was informed that the subscription is not up to date. I will update our site as soon as everything is a go. Raz Kids is a great way for students to engage in reading at their "just right" level.

In Health class we are learning about Physical changes.  If possible,  I would like your child to bring one of their baby pictures by Friday. Please send pictures no larger than 4x5. The class will be trying to guess who each baby is. After, we have some fun brainstorming the many ways they have changed since they were babies. Thank you in advance.

Consent forms came home last week for our fieldtrip to Helen Schuler on October 17th. Please send forms back as soon as possible as students must have written permission to participate. Also, we will need 4 to 5 parent supervisors in order to meet the adult/children ratio required for fieldtrips. Sadly, we are unable to have siblings join our fieldtrips due to liability issues. Thank you in advance.

Our very first spelling test is this Thursday. This can often be very stressful for grade one students. Please try to practice with your child and I promise to make it as stress free as possible!

Friday is our student retreat. The committee has many wonderful activities planned for the day.

Things to remember this week:
  • Oct 4 - Walk and Bike to School Day
  • Oct 5 - first spelling test - see October words for test #1 list
  • Oct 6 - Student Retreat
Just a "heads up" that we will be carving pumpkins on Friday October 27th (start time TBA). We will need donations of 8 pumpkins and 8 parent volunteers. Please consider purchasing pumpkins from CCH Santa's Anonymous as the money goes to a very worthy cause.
