Weekly Update - September 14 - 18

Last week went very smoothly, your children make my job such a pleasure!! While out on supervision, I spent a lot of time watching to see if students were making play plans with their peers. They often need a bit of coaching at this stage. Please let me know if your child feels left out so I can link them up with friends or encourage them to arrange play plans prior to recess breaks.

We are working on letter names and sounds and we are beginning sight words from the pre primer list. Having your child find things around the house beginning with each letter of the alphabet is a fun way to reinforce letter sounds. Also, please check out the Dolch sight word link for the word lists.

This week we will be learning about families at home and the classroom family. We will be talking about what happens in each of these families, and how each family has certain responsibilities. Talk with your child about his or her responsibilities at home, and how carrying out these responsibilities helps the family.

Our first Pizza day is coming up this Thursday. Our school has a pizza day each month and each class takes one turn, this is how we raise money for class extras. Please make sure to send your money in on time. Once the money is counted and pizza is ordered, it is difficult to accept late orders.

I have I am waiting for our A to Z subscription to take effect before I set all of the students up on the Raz Kids site. This is a fantastic leveled reading computer program. Your child has access to level appropriate books that they either read independently or have read to them. When they are able to answer the comprehension questions successfully, the program moves them along up the levels. I will send home a letter with all of the information this week.

Tuesday is the school BBQ. It is a great way to meet other parents and have your children meet their classmates in an unstructured setting. Please check the school newsletter for all the details. One of the class parents is working on a parent email list. I will set up a group list on school email and will share it with you as soon as it is complete. If you have not yet given me your email address, please send it to me and I will add it to the list.

I am looking forward to another warm, wonderful week! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!!
