Our class will be learning about Thanksgiving and talking about all of the things we are thankful for this week. We will also continue the Fall/Autumn theme.
We continue to work on daily reading stamina and listening to reading. Our writing work will begin this week and will focus on word families. For word work we have been working on our spelling words in centers that include: computers, white boards, chalk boards, letters and stamping words. We also practice our spelling and sight words with our grade four reading buddies.
The first spelling test was a bit stressful because it was the first formal test written by the class. But, I want the students to realize that it is about learning how to spell and read the sight words more than getting a score. Please let me know if your child came home upset and I will gladly let them write the test again in a less stressful setting. I encourage students to share their tests with their families only and not to compare with each other.
We have our first fieldtrip of the year to Helen Schuler on Thursday, October 15th. I am so grateful to all of the parents who have signed up to be chaperones. Unfortunately, because both grade one classes are riding the bus, we won't have room for parents this time. Please join us down there!Don't fret if you are unable to attend this fieldtrip....there are many other opportunities in the coming months!
Just a "heads up", we will be carving pumpkins on October 27th from 10:30 to 11:40 a.m. Thank you to the parents who have offered to donate pumpkins and to those who will be joining us to carve them!
