Weekly Update - September 22 - 26

September School Owls

Hopefully everyone is out enjoying this beautiful weather! If you get an opportunity, remind your child that Tuesday is the first day of Fall.

Week three was very full with a bus safety presentation, the family BBQ and pizza lunch! One of our many areas of focus this week was building up stamina in our Read to Self activity (There is a side link with information of Daily 5). The students are currently able to stay engaged in reading behaviours for five minutes! After they finish reading, we graph the stamina minutes...they become very motivated to beat their own record!

For the Word Work section, I have created activities using the October spelling words. Students will have many opportunities to practice their spelling words and group working skills while working with various classmates on fun activities. All of the spelling words and test dates are listed on the spelling lists link.

I will be starting a Work on Writing activity with my students this week, it is a book called My House All Year. In this book, each student will write a sentence about each month of the year and draw a picture to accompany the sentence. This book provides students with writing practice and math practice (time: months of the year and seasons). We will only do one page every month and I am really encouraging each student to do their best, because we will show these books to their parents at Parent-Teacher Conferences.

Dates to remember:
  • Sept 23rd- Safety City comes to the school for Pedestrian Safety.
  • Sept 24th- Wear your running shoes!! The entire school will be running for the Terry Fox Run.
  • Sept 25th - School Picture Day
