Weekly Update - October 20 - 24

Last week was a very short week so it went by in a blurr! We are gearing up for Hallowe’en so it should be a very busy couple of weeks.

In addition to working on various Hallowe’en activities, we will be partnering with seniors and parents to carve pumpkins on Friday. We will have 10 pumpkins so we will break students up into small groups of one senior and two students per pumpkin. The parents and volunteers will circulate to help with carving, design ideas and separating the seeds for me to bake on the weekend. We will begin about 9:45 am and should be finished in time to send students back to class for lunch.
We have a buddy grade one class at FLVT this year. We just finished writing  short notes, made into a book, that we sent to them on Friday. We will be sending them treats (spiders made from oreo cookies, pretzels and M&Ms) this Friday. We will make our buddies 4 to 5 books this year as we become better writers.
Our room rep will be contacting a few of you to ask you to send healthy treats for our very short party after the costume parade. We will probably only have about 30 min. to eat and watch a short video. Students will just have finished lunch so they may not be overly hungry, a few small treats will likely be sufficient. Thank you in advance!
Family Potluck for all Westside students.  As a continuation of the Retreat, there will be a Potluck Family Faith Evening, held from 5:30 until 8:00 at SPFA, open to families from FLVT and CSM as well.  The Face to Face team plans a 45 minute presentation for parents and kids, and then supper at about 6:30, wrapping up with another 45 minute presentation. This means that parents with young children may choose to leave before the final presentation if needed.
We are very excited to kick off the Walking With Words series. We have contacted a number of "local Celebrities" and have asked them to come and read their favourite childhood book to participating grade 1 - 3 classes. Afterwards, students will be encouraged to ask questions. Our first session is this Friday October 24th and we are pleased to welcome Mark Campbell.

Thank you for all of the practicing of spelling words you have been doing at home. It has been making a positive difference in both student confidence and performance!
