February 5 - 9

Last week we focused on groundhog activities and information. Bad news for warm-weather fans: beloved groundhog Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow, therefore predicting that winter will stick around for another six weeks in 2018.

This week we will concentrate on the Valentines Day and 100th day of school. It is hard to believe that we are over half way through the school year! I have some activities planned for the week and then we will wrap up the festivities with a "Mad Hatter" parade through a few other classrooms on February 15th. I hope that you and your children have been busy creating fantastic 100th day hats for this exciting event!

Shrove Tuesday and Valentine's day will be celebrated on Tuesday February 13th. The morning will go on as normal and lunch will be provided by parent council. In the afternoon we will exchange valentines, watch a short video and enjoy some delicious treats supplied by the parents. Thank you to those of you who are on treat duty!

I will begin assessing reading and math skills for the next report card starting February 12th. Please help your child practice counting to 100 by 1's, 2's, 5's and 10's. Also, if all the stars align, students will be reading close to level E/F on Raz Kids by the March report card. I know that sounds high, but I am proud of the progress they are making each day.
