Weekly Update - October 1 - 5

The last week of September consisted of cold, wet weather but the trees are really beautiful! Such a busy week! We had the Terry Fox Run on Wednesday, picture day on Thursday (your kids are adorable by the way), and Orange Shirt Day on Friday. We couldn't have asked for better student awareness and participation for the Terry Fox Run. Thank you to all of the parents who came out to help!

The grade four buddies pair up with the grade ones on Wednesdays. In addition to teaching them math games and reading with them, they will also help their buddy practice the weekly spelling words.

This week we will focus on Thanksgiving words and activities. I hope you had fun disguising the turkeys with your child! I will be displaying them on the bulletin board for everyone to enjoy! Our Thanksgiving Liturgy is on Friday morning.

I apologize for the delay with Raz Kids! My understanding was that the classes would be flipped over by this weekend but when I went in to set up the levels, I was informed that the subscription is not up to date. I will update our site as soon as everything is a go. Raz Kids is a great way for students to engage in reading at their "just right" level.

In Health class we are learning about Physical changes.  If possible,  I would like your child to bring one of their baby pictures by Friday. Please send pictures no larger than 4x5. The class will be trying to guess who each baby is. After, we have some fun brainstorming the many ways they have changed since they were babies. Thank you in advance.

Chaperone forms will come home on Monday for our fieldtrip to Helen Schuler on October 16th. Please send forms back as soon as possible as we will need 4 to 5 parent chaperones in order to meet the adult/children ratio required for fieldtrips. Sadly, we are unable to have siblings join our fieldtrips due to liability issues. Thank you in advance.

Our very first spelling test is this Friday (a  the  big  can  up). This can often be very stressful for grade one students. Please try to practice with your child and I promise to make it as stress free as possible!

Our school will participate in Farm Credit Corporation’s annual ‘Drive Away Hunger’ food drive through to the 12th this month. Info will come home soon.

Things to remember this week:
  • Oct 1 - Walk/bike to school week starts today
  • Oct 3 - Bus Evacuation Drill - 9:00 am
  • Oct 5 - Thanksgiving Liturgy - 8:45 - 9:15 am (parents welcome)
  • Oct 5 - first spelling test - see October words for test #1 list

Just a "heads up" that we will be carving pumpkins on Monday October 29th (start time TBA). We will need donations of 7 pumpkins and 7 parent volunteers if possible. Our room reps will be contacting you soon.
