Last week was a very busy week. We began the season of Lent so we went to St. Martha Church on Wednesday to celebrate Ash Wednesday. Students did lots of work but they also got the opportunity to go to Home Depot on Thursday. A huge thank you to all of the parents who came to help out at Home Depot!

Students have started to bring in their Leprechaun traps. I am amazed at the talent and creative ideas! We are hoping to have all of the traps at school for display by Wednesday of this week.

Celebration of Learning Interviews are 4:30 - 7:30 pm on March 13 and 14. I look forward to meeting with all of you. Please note that the format has changed. Your child will be sharing what they are learning with you, they are very proud of their accomplishments!

This week and next week are short weeks. Friday is a PD Day and Monday is Spiritual Development Day for staff so there will be no school for students. We head to Green Haven on Tuesday March 19th. We leave about 12:40 and arrive at Green Haven about 1:00 pm. I will send home a form this week asking for trip chaperones.

We have been doing a lot of practice on our Choral Speech poems. Our performance is on Tuesday April 2nd in the SPFA gym. More information about times and dress code will come soon.

Cats Sleep Anywhere
by Eleanor Farjeon

Cats sleep anywhere,
Any table, any chair.
Top of piano, window ledge,
In the middle, on the edge.
Open drawer, empty shoe,
Anybody’s lap will do.
Fitted in a cardboard box,
In a cupboard with your frocks.
Anywhere. They don’t care.
Cats sleep anywhere.

My Dog May Be a Genius
by Jack Prelutsky

My dog may be a genius,
and in fact there’s little doubt.
He recognizes many words,
unless I spell them out.
If I so much as whisper “walk,”
he hurries off at once
to fetch his leash…it’s evident
my dog is not a dunce.

I can’t say “food” in front of him,
I spell f-o-o-d,
and he goes wild unless I spell
his t-r-e-a-t.
But recently this tactic
isn’t working out too well.
I think my d-o-g has learned
to s-p-e-l-l.
