Weekly Update - October 6 - 10

Our class will be learning about Thanksgiving and talking about all of the things we are thankful for this week. We will also continue the Fall/Autumn theme.

We continue to work on daily reading stamina and listening to reading. Our writing work has started and we are focusing on word families. For word work we have been working on our spelling words on the white boards, chalk boards, stamping and with our grade four reading buddies.

The first spelling test was a bit stressful because it was the first formal test written by the class. But, I want the students to realize that it is about learning how to spell and read the sight words more than getting a score. Please let me know if your child came home upset and I will gladly let them write the test again in a less stressful setting. I encourage students to share their tests with their families only and not to compare with each other.

We have our first fieldtrip of the year to Helen Schuler on Tuesday, October 7th. I am so grateful to all of the parents who have signed up to be chaperones. We have room on the bus for anyone wishing to join us. Don't fret if you are unable to attend this fieldtrip....there are many other opportunities in the coming months!

Just a "heads up", we will be carving pumpkins on October 24th. If anyone has access to free pumpkins, we would be very grateful!! We will need about 10. Also, I could really use 3 or 4 parent helpers from 9:30 - 11:00 am. Let me know if you are available.
